22 October 2010: Ahead of the the Fourth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which will convene from 24-28 October 2010, in Seoul, Republic of Korea, the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) is urging participating ministers to incorporate disaster risk reduction (DRR) into national climate change adaptation policies.

According to Margareta Wahlström, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, “DDR offers concrete solutions to deal with current weather variability and is an essential part of climate change adaptation.” UN/ISDR also noted the meeting provides governments the opportunity to reaffirm their commitments to the Hyogo Framework of Action, as well as to exchange experiences on successful practices and innovative approaches to DDR at the national and local levels.
