Reduction, celebrated on 8 October, will focus on making hospitals and health
facilities safe from disaster. The Day will be part of the UN International
Strategy for Disaster Reduction’s (UN/ISDR) new World Disaster Reduction
Campaign 2008-2009: Hospitals Safe from Disasters.

In this context, the UN/ISDR
Secretariat is working with the World Health Organization, with support from
the World Bank, to reduce risk, protect health facilities and save lives. The
Day will aim to raise awareness of the crucial role health facilities and
