Un-isdr23 October 2009: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) convened a workshop on Guidelines for Social Communicators on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Adaptation to Climate Change, from 21-22 October 2009, in Havana, Cuba.
The purpose of this workshop was to review and update the 1999 “Guidelines for Social Communicators and Disaster Prevention” as first published by the office of the International Decade for Disaster Reduction, predecessor to the UN/ISDR. Academics and media professionals working in areas of DRR, risk management and development communications participated in the event, which analyzed and revised the previous guidelines in consideration of more recent paradigms surrounding DRR, sustainable development communications and adaptation to climate change. The new version of this document is expected to be finalized by the end of 2009.[UN/ISDR website]
