story highlights

UN/ISDR calls for good practices and lessons learned by cities/local governments for its "Making Cities Resilient – My City is Getting Ready!" campaign.

9 November 2010: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has launched a call for good practices and lessons learned by cities/local governments for its “Making Cities Resilient – My City is Getting Ready!” campaign.

The submissions will be made available on the Campaign website, and the most illustrative examples will also be published and showcased at the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction, to be held on 8-13 May 2011. The aim of the Campaign is to enlist over 1,000 local government leaders to invest more in disaster risk reduction (DRR), including: improving urban planning, infrastructure and building safety; reinforcing drainage systems to reduce flood, storm and health threats; installing early warning systems; conducting public preparedness drills; and taking measures to adapt to the increasing impacts of climate change.
