UNIDO Releases Vienna Energy Forum Report, Participates in Future Energy Forum

The report summarizes and events of the fifth edition of the Vienna Energy Forum, which explored the inter-linkages between energy, the SDGs and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The Conference titled, 'Energy for All,' of the Future Energy Forum discussed actions and experiences of countries and organizations in achieving access to sustainable energy for all.

14 August 2017: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) released the report of the Vienna Energy Forum 2017 (VEF) titled, ‘Sustainable Energy for the Implementation of the SDGs and the Paris Agreement.’ The organization also reported on its participation in a conference held as part of the Future Energy Forum, a flagship event of the Astana 2017 Expo.

The fifth edition of the VEF explored the inter-linkages between energy and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change. The report summarizes the main events of the Forum and outlines key messages, including on: the role of energy in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; the energy, food security, land, water and health nexus; sustainable cities and communities; and links between SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) and SDG 13 (climate action). VEF 2017 took place 11 and 12 May 2017 in Vienna, Austria. In related news, UNIDO also reported on its participation in a conference on challenges in ensuring energy security and sustainability for all (SDG 7) that was held as part of the Future Energy Forum, organized under the Astana Expo 2017. Participants to the conference discussed experiences and activities of countries and international organizations in improving access to electricity, increasing the share of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. The Future Energy Forum is one of the flagship events of the Astana Expo 2017. Through a series of events, it aims to develop a ‘Manifesto of Values and Principles’ that represents the culminated knowledge, solutions and frameworks for an international energy transition. The conference ‘Energy for All’ was held from 8-9 August 2017, at the Astana Expo 2017 Venue in Astana, Kazakhstan.
