UNIDO Director-General says UN-Energy will drive renewable energy and energy efficiency in Africa

UnidoIn his address to the tenth African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, UNIDO Director-General Kandeh K Yumkella said that “priority must be given to all forms of renewable energy for productive use and to ensuring a high degree of energy efficiency in industrial production.”

Noting that UNIDO supports such efforts in a number of African countries, he said as Chair of UN-Energy he “would drive forward the UN’s systems work in this issue.”
He also announced that UNIDO, with the African Union and Government of Senegal, will host the Conference on renewable energy in Africa in April to map out the investment opportunities and highlight critical policy issue for Africa to benefit from the ‘Green Energy Revolution.’
