UNIDO Convenes E-waste Workshop

The primary objective of the workshop was to contribute to national and international to understand and reduce the impacts of the hazardous chemicals content of electrical and electronic equipment during their life cycle along the supply chain, on human health and the environment, as well as seizing opportunities for employment creation and poverty alleviation.

31 March 2011: The UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), in cooperation with the Secretariats of the Basel and Stockholm Conventions, convened the International Workshop on Hazardous Substances within the Life Cycle of Electronic and Electrical products from 29-31 March in Vienna, Austria.

The primary objective of the workshop was to contribute to national and international to understand and reduce the impacts of the hazardous chemicals content of electrical and electronic equipment during their life cycle along the supply chain, on human health and the environment, as well as seizing opportunities for employment creation and poverty alleviation.

According to UNIDO, the event also considered sustainable ways to develop and apply effective policies and methodologies, build appropriate infrastructure and national capacity for managing electrical and electronic waste. [UNIDO Press Release] [Workshop Documents]
