UNFF26 February 2016: The Secretariat of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) has published a policy brief exploring opportunities for greater coherence with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) arising from the Paris Agreement and the International Arrangement on Forests (IAF) beyond 2015. The brief focuses on forest-based climate change mitigation and adaptation measures, forest financing and the ‘global stocktake’ under the Paris Agreement.

The brief, titled “Paris Agreement and the IAF Beyond 2015; Opportunities for Greater Coherence,” highlights provisions in the Paris Agreement that lay the foundation for increased coherence between the IAF beyond 2015 and the Paris Agreement, and consequently, enhanced collaboration between the UNFF and the UNFCCC.

It concludes that these provisions are important elements for consideration in the development of the IAF strategic plan and the operationalization of the Paris Agreement.

The Paris Agreement was adopted by the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC on 12 December 2015. [UNFF Press Release] [Paris Agreement and the IAF Beyond 2015; Opportunities for Greater Coherence] [IAF Website] [IISD RS Coverage of COP 21]
