5 December 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat and the Climate Group have announced a strategic partnership of their global initiatives to raise awareness on climate change and clean energy. Specifically, they will join efforts of the Climate Group’s “Clean Revolution” campaign and the UN Climate Change Secretariat’s “Momentum for Change” initiative.

Christiana Figueres, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, described the partnership as an opportunity to show that action on climate change “is already happening” and to share low-carbon success stories. She praised the Climate Group as an organization with a clear focus on the role of leadership.

Mark Kenber, CEO of The Climate Group, welcomed partnering with the UNFCCC Secretariat, noting that the Momentum for Change Initiative seeks “to cut through the ongoing pessimism” around climate negotiations, and show the successes of the low-carbon and clean revolution.

The Momentum for Change Initiative seeks to: correct misperceptions about action on climate change; demonstrate the benefits of addressing climate change; and raise awareness about mitigation and adaptation efforts. The Clean Revolution campaign is an international partnership seeking to inspire government and business leaders by presenting them with evidence of low-carbon economic opportunities. It also calls for a quick and large-scale increase in clean energy and climate-smart technology.

The organizations will work together to: call on corporate and government leaders to commit to low carbon action; encourage stakeholders to submit successful projects under the Momentum for Change initiative; share and disseminate information; and promote their respective initiatives internationally.
