© UNFCCC3 September 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a Scenario Note (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/13) in preparation for the first part of the ninth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP), which will convene from 28 September- 9 October in Bangkok, Thailand, in conjunction with the seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA).

The scenario note outlines that AWG-KP 9 will seek to consider issues relating to rules and modalities of possible improvements relating to agenda items on: analysis of means to reach emission reduction targets and identification of ways to enhance their effectiveness and contribution to sustainable development; consideration of relevant methodological issues; and consideration of information on potential environmental, economic and social consequences, including spillover effects, of tools, policies, measures and methodologies available to Annex I Parties (potential consequences). The adoption of conclusions at the seventh and eighth session on the scale of emission reductions to be achieved by Annex I Parties in aggregate, as well as on the contribution of Annex I Parties to this scale, is envisaged. An overview of organizational matters is provided in the scenario note, which includes arrangements for plenary sessions and the establishment of four contact groups on: Annex I emission reductions; other matters; potential consequences; and legal matters.
