2 March 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the first edition of its newsletter for 2010. The issue includes updates on topics discussed at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen and looks ahead to upcoming meetings and events.
The Newsletter features articles on, inter alia: building on the success of Kyoto’s market mechanisms; Ad hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) and Ad hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) update; progress on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD); Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) evolving and improving; greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory reviews; upcoming workshops under the Nairobi Work Programme; finance update; special Expert Group on Technology Transfer (EGTT) meeting in Sydney, Australia; and preparing technology transfer projects for financing.
It also includes a video statement by Yvo de Boer, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, as well as a statement from de Boer titled “Climate policy and sustainable growth – the inseparable goals,” and a guest article authored by Peter Dunscombe, Chair of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC), titled “Strong policy will drive private sector investment in low carbon solutions.” [The Newsletter]
