UNFCCC23 November 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the provisional annotated agenda (FCCC/AWGLCA/2009/15) for the eighth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 8). This session will convene from 7-15 December 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark, in conjunction with the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC and the fifth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol(COP/MOP 5).
The AWG-LCA 8 will consider, among other items, enabling the full, effective and sustained implementation of the Convention through long-term cooperative action now, up to and beyond 2012, by addressing, inter alia: a shared vision for long-term cooperative action; enhanced national/international action on mitigation of climate change; enhanced action on adaptation; enhanced action on technology development and transfer to support action on mitigation and adaptation; and enhanced action on the provision of financial resources and investment to support action on mitigation and adaptation and technology cooperation.
The Secretariat has also released the Chair’s scenario note for the tenth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 10) (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/16). The main objective of AWG-KP 10 will be to produce substantive results of the work on the consideration of commitments for subsequent periods for Annex I Parties under Article 3, paragraph 9, of the Kyoto Protocol, and forward them to the COP/MOP for further action. The priority of the session will be to adopt conclusions on the scale of emission reductions to be achieved by Annex I Parties in aggregate, as well as on the contribution of Annex I Parties individually or jointly to this scale. Under overview and organizational matters, arrangements for work adopted during the ninth session will continue to apply and four contact groups will be established on Annex I emission reductions, other matters, potential consequences, and legal matters. The contact group on emission reductions will be given priority in terms of time allocation. The AWG-KP Chair proposes that all contact groups focus their work on preparing draft decisions or draft amendments, as appropriate, on the subjects under their consideration.
