4 June 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released Australia’s submission to the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP), which is holding its eighth session in Bonn, Germany, until 12 June 2009 (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/MISC.13).

The submission is made under the agenda item “information on possible quantified emission limitation and reduction objectives from Annex I Parties,” and the Australian Government indicates that, in addition to its earlier pledges, it will reduce its emissions to 25% below 2000 levels by 2020 if there is an ambitious global agreement sufficient to deliver long-term stabilization of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at 450 parts per million of carbon dioxide-equivalent or lower.
