UNFCCC Reports on Support for LDCs’ Adaptation to Climate Change

The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a report that synthesizes the views submitted by Parties and relevant organizations and agencies on support for the national adaptation plan (NAP) process for LDCs and addresses, inter alia: how organizations and agencies have responded to the invitation to support the NAP process in LDCs and to consider establishing support programmes; and information provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), on how it could enable activities undertaken as part of the NAP process in LDCs.

30 April 2012: The Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has released a synthesis report on support for the national adaptation plan (NAP) process for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) (FCCC/SBI/2012/8).

The report synthesizes the views submitted by UNFCCC Parties and relevant organizations and agencies regarding support for the NAP process for LDCs, and addresses: how organizations and agencies have responded to the invitation to support the NAP process in LDCs and to consider establishing support programmes; support for the NAP process for LDCs; and information provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), as an operating entity of the financial mechanism for the operation of the LDC Fund, on how it could enable activities undertaken as part of the NAP process in LDCs. The report concludes by providing views on possible next steps.

Eleven small island developing States (SIDS) are categorized as LDCs, namely: Cape Verde, Comoros, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Kiribati, Maldives, Samoa, Sao Tome and Principe, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

The report will be considered by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) of the Convention at its 36th session, scheduled to take place in Bonn, Germany, from 14-25 May 2012. [Synthesis report on the support for the national adaptation plan process for the least developed countries]
