The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) has submitted a report to the UNFCCC Secretariat on its actions to coordinate the monitoring of essential climate variables (ECVs) based on requirements set out in the 2010 implementation plan of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS).
12 October 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a report on progress made by space agencies involved in global climate observations (FCCC/SBSTA/2012/MISC.14), for consideration at the 37th session of its Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) to be held at the end of 2012, in Doha, Qatar.
The report is provided by India on behalf of the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS), outlining CEOS actions to coordinate monitoring of essential climate variables (ECVs) based on requirements set out in the 2010 implementation plan of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS).
In the report, CEOS highlights development of a roadmap identifying desired deliverables over the next five years, and the agencies responsible for specific actions. It calls for an unprecedented degree of coordination and collaboration among CEOS, GCOS, national climate programmes and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) in order to meet targets over the next few years.
