2 March 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the provisional agenda for the 17th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 17), which will take place in Bonn, Germany, from 15-24 May 2012.

The session will consider the further commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol. In particular, the AWG-KP will be invited to focus its efforts on: agreeing on the length of the second commitment period; continuing consideration of matters related to quantified emission limitation or reduction objectives (QELROs) with a view to the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP) adopting these QELROs as amendments to Annex B to the Kyoto Protocol at its eighth session; considering the proposed amendments to the Kyoto Protocol contained in annex 3 to decision 1/CMP.7; assessing the implications of the carry-over of assigned amount units to the second commitment period on the scale of emission reductions to be achieved by parties included in Annex I in aggregate for the second commitment period; and identifying appropriate actions to address these implications.
