UNFCCC Releases “Progress Tracker” of Paris Mandates
story highlights

The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a “progress tracker,” a tool that tracks progress made on the work programme resulting from requests contained in decision 1/CP.21 (Adoption of the Paris Agreement).

The President of the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) and the incoming President of COP 22 requested the Secretariat, in their May 2016 reflections note, to develop such a tool to provide up-to-date information on the implementation of mandates in decision 1/CP.21, as well as information on next steps.

The 10-page progress tracker identifies, in tabular format: mandates; responsible bodies/actors; timelines; status of implementation; and next steps.

UNFCCC5 July 2016: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a “progress tracker,” which tracks progress made on the work programme resulting from requests contained in decision 1/CP.21 (Adoption of the Paris Agreement). The President of the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) and the incoming President of COP 22 requested the Secretariat, in their May 2016 reflections note, to develop such a tool to provide up-to-date information on the implementation of these mandates, as well as information on next steps.

The ten-page progress tracker identifies, in tabular format: mandates; responsible bodies/actors for carrying out the mandate; timelines; status of implementation; and next steps.

The mandates are organized into 11 substantive color-coded clusters, namely: individual efforts; support; transparency of action and support; global stocktake; enhanced action pre-2020; non-party stakeholders; loss and damage; response measures; mechanisms; adaptation; and facilitating implementation and compliance. The clusters are not intended to prejudge or determine the organization of work the bodies may undertake or of any session.

Information on status refers to the latest steps/deliverables associated with a specific mandate, while information on next steps identifies upcoming developments associated with a mandate. The tracker also contains links to relevant documents and webpages, and will be updated regularly. [Progress Tracker] [Progress Tracker Methodology] [Decision 1/CP.21]
