The UNFCCC Secretariat has received and published three submissions from parties containing their views on: the eligibility of CCS project activities involving transport of carbon dioxide from one country to another or involving geological storage sites that are located in more than one country; and establishment of a global reserve of certified emission reductions for CCS project activities.
28 March 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the submissions from three parties on their views regarding specific aspects of the eligibility of carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) projects as Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects (FCCC/SBSTA/2012/MISC.8).
The submissions were made in response to a request by the seventh session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP) for parties and admitted observer organizations to submit their views on: the eligibility of CCS project activities involving transport of carbon dioxide from one country to another or involving geological storage sites that are located in more than one country; and the establishment of a global reserve of certified emission reductions (CERs) for CCS project activities.
Three such submissions have been received from: Denmark and the European Commission on behalf of the EU and its member States; Nauru on behalf of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS); and Pakistan.
Submissions from admitted observers have been posted on the UNFCCC website. The submissions will be considered by the 36th session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), which will take place in Bonn, Germany, from 14-25 May 2012.
