UNFCCC Releases GHG Inventory Review for Romania
story highlights

The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the individual review of the annual submission of Romania submitted in 2011.

The Expert Review Team (ERT) finds that the GHG inventory is generally in line with the IPCC Revised 1996 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, the IPCC Good Practice Guidance and Uncertainty Management in National GHG Inventories, and the IPCC Good Practice Guidance for Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF).

However, the ERT notes a need for further improvements, particularly in the LULUCF sector.

UNFCCC27 February 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the individual review of the annual submission of Romania submitted in 2011 (FCCC/ARR/2011/ROU).

The report notes that, in 2009, the main greenhouse gas (GHG) in Romania was carbon dioxide, accounting for 66.4% of total GHG emissions, and the energy sector accounted for 67.5% of total GHG emissions, followed by the agriculture sector with 19.4%. It highlights that total GHG emissions for Romania amounted to 129,895.33 Gg CO2 eq in 2009 and decreased by 54.4% between the base year and 2009. It stresses that the key driver for the fall in emissions was the economic downturn during the period of transition to a market economy in Romania.

The Expert Review Team (ERT) finds that the GHG inventory is generally in line with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Revised 1996 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, the IPCC Good Practice Guidance and Uncertainty Management in National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, and the IPCC Good Practice Guidance for Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF). However, the ERT notes a need for further improvements, particularly in the LULUCF sector. [The Report]
