UNFCCC8 November 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report of the workshop on the implications of the implementation of certain decisions by the seventh session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 7) on its previous decisions on methodological issues related to the Kyoto Protocol (FCCC/SBSTA/2012/INF.12).

The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), at its 36th session, commenced consideration of the implications on the previous COP/MOP decisions on Kyoto Protocol methodological issues of the implementation of decisions 2/CMP.7 (land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF)), 3/CMP.7 (emissions trading and the project-based mechanisms), 4/CMP.7 (various methodological issues), and 5/CMP.7 (consideration of information on potential consequences). SBSTA then requested the Secretariat to organize a technical workshop on this agenda item, to be held before SBSTA 37. It also requested the Secretariat to prepare a report on the workshop.

This report summarizes the outcomes of the workshop organized in response to SBSTA’s request. The workshop, which was held from 8-10 October 2012, in Bonn, Germany, provided a forum for experts and stakeholders to discuss how to assess and address the implications of the implementation of these decisions. Among other issues discussed, workshop participants addressed issues relating to accounting and reporting, and LULUCF. The report contains a summary of the proceedings and content of the discussions undertaken during the workshop, as well as an annex, agreed upon by the workshop participants, detailing the issues discussed at the workshop.

SBSTA will continue its consideration of the implications of the implementation of decisions 2/CMP.7 to 5/CMP.7 at its 37th session. [Publication: Report on Workshop on Implications of Implementation of Certain COP/MOP 7 Decisions on Kyoto Protocol Methodological Issues]
