UNFCCC Publishes Sweden’s GHG Inventory Review Report
story highlights

The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the centralized review of the 2011 annual submission of Sweden (FCCC/ARR/2011/SWE).

The Expert Review Team (ERT) that conducted the centralized review concludes that Sweden's inventory submission is prepared in compliance with the UNFCCC reporting guidelines, as well as the relevant IPCC guidelines.

UNFCCC27 July 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the centralized review of the 2011 annual submission of Sweden (FCCC/ARR/2011/SWE). The report highlights that total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions decreased by 17.3% between 1990 and 2009.

The Expert Review Team (ERT) that conducted the centralized review concludes that Sweden’s inventory submission is prepared in compliance with the UNFCCC reporting guidelines as well as the relevant Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines. It also finds that the inventory submission, the common reporting format (CRF) tables and the national inventory report are generally complete. However, certain information is incomplete, including on: subcategories under fugitive emissions from natural gas transmission and distribution; combustion of ethanol in road transportation; and emissions from solvents.

The ERT identifies the following cross-cutting issues for improvement: including in the National Inventory Report (NIR) category-specific planned improvements and prior recommendations; implementing an uncertainty analysis and revise the uncertainty estimates reported as zero; and improving explanations on inventory improvements and recalculations resulting in revised uncertainty. The ERT further formulates recommendations for improving completeness and transparency of information, including: reviewing estimates from manure management and from pasture, range and paddock manure; and improving consistency and accuracy of data from the land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector.
