3 April 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the centralized review of the 2012 annual submission of Sweden (FCCC/ARR/2012/SWE) that indicates that total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions decreased for this country by 9.1% between 1990 and 2010.

The Expert Review Team (ERT) that conducted the centralized review concludes that Sweden’s inventory submission was prepared in compliance with the UNFCCC reporting guidelines. It also concludes that the inventory submission, the common reporting format (CRF) tables and the national inventory report (NIR) are complete. The ERT further concludes that Sweden’s inventory is in line with the relevant IPPC Guidelines, except for some minor allocation issues in the industrial processes sector, and the provision of certain estimates for emissions from pasture, range and paddock manure.

The ERT identifies the following cross-cutting issues for improvement, inter alia, reporting the key category analyses for the energy and land use, land- use change and forestry (LULUCF) sectors, and improving the transparency of the reported information on the uncertainty analysis and across all sectors. The ERT further formulates recommendations for improving methodological approaches in estimating emissions for specific sectors, including for the waste, LULUCF, energy and industrial processes sectors.
