The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the centralized review of the 2011 annual submission of the US (FCCC/ARR/2011/USA) that states that total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions increased by 7.2% between 1990 and 2009.
The Expert Review Team (ERT) that conducted the review provided recommendations such as improving the coverage of categories in the inventory; increasing current efforts to update activity data.
28 September 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the centralized review of the 2011 annual submission of the United States (FCCC/ARR/2011/USA), which outlines that total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions increased by 7.2% between 1990 and 2009.
The Expert Review Team (ERT) that conducted the centralized review concluded that the inventory submission of the US was prepared in compliance with the UNFCCC reporting guidelines, and that the inventory submission, the common reporting format (CRF) tables and the national inventory report (NIR) were generally complete. It further states that the US inventory is generally in line with relevant guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
In the review, the ERT identifies the following cross-cutting issues for improvement: improving the coverage of categories in the inventory; increasing current efforts to update activity data; and improving the transparency of the inventory, for example in the energy and the land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) sectors. The ERT further recommends ensuring that information is reported at the aggregation level as provided by the UNFCCC reporting guidelines and by relevant decisions of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP).
