16 March 2010: The UNFCCC has published the annotated provisional agenda (FCCC/AWGLCA/2010/1) for the ninth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 9), which is due to convene from 9-11 April 2010, in Bonn, Germany, in conjunction with the 11th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 11).

During the session, in addition to other items, the AWG-LCA will be invited to agree on the organization of its work, including the calendar of meetings in 2010 and methods of work, that will allow the AWG-LCA to resolve outstanding issues in the negotiations while ensuring inclusiveness, transparency and efficiency in reaching substantive outcomes.
The AWG-LCA scenario note (FCCC/AWGLCA/2010/2) has also been released, in which the AWG-LCA Chair shares her initial ideas on the objective and the organization of the work of the session. The note indicates that the principal objective of the ninth ssession should be to allow the AWG-LCA to agree on the organization of its work for 2010, taking into account the significant progress made in Copenhagen, an assessment of the issues that remain unresolved, and a shared understanding of what can and needs to be achieved by the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the UNFCCC.
The Chair proposes that AWG-LCA 10 establish a single contact group to address the issues under negotiation in a coherent manner, with the possibility of combining this with work in drafting groups on specific issues as needed. The note also indicates that in elaborating its work programme, the AWG-LCA may also need to address questions related to the objective and outcome of the work of the AWG-LCA, which is to be presented to COP 16.
