The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), at its 36th session, initiated its consideration of the implications on the previous COP/MOP decisions on Kyoto Protocol methodological issues of the implementation of decisions 2/CMP.7 (land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF)), 3/CMP.7 (emissions trading and the project-based mechanisms), 4/CMP.7 (various methodological issues), and 5/CMP.7 (consideration of information on potential consequences).

The Secretariat has received submissions on this issue from Australia, Cyprus and the European Commission on behalf of the EU and its member States, Japan, and New Zealand.
