7 November 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report of the 22nd meeting of the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) (FCCC/SBI/2012/27). The meeting was held in Funafuti, Tuvalu, from 26-29 September 2012. The report provides an update on the efforts of the LEG to implement its work.

The report, which includes a summary of the work of the LEG, features sections on: technical guidance and support to the national adaptation plan (NAP) process, including the technical guidelines for NAPs and identifying support needs; support for the implementation of national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs) and the least developed countries (LDC) work programme; and the organization of the regional training workshops on adaptation for the LDCs for 2012-2013. Moreover, the report contains information on progress on outreach activities of the LEG, interaction with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its agencies, linkages with other bodies under the Convention and collaboration with other organizations, agencies and regional centres in supporting the LDCs. The report also includes an Annex with information on the LEG membership.

The report indicates that the GEF reported that, as at 29 September 2012, 49 LDCs had been supported with funding for the preparation of their NAPAs and 47 LDCs have successfully completed their NAPAs. In fulfilling its work programme for 2012–2013, the LEG identified activities that had contributed, or would contribute to support for the formulation and implementation of national adaptation plans, including: producing and launching the NAP technical guidelines; identifying support needs for NAPs; and compiling and synthesizing information on steps of the NAP process.
