story highlights

The UNFCCC Secretariat has published reviews of the individual annual submissions from Ireland, Denmark and the Netherlands.

UNFCCC6 August 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published reviews of the individual annual submissions from Ireland, Denmark and the Netherlands.

In the report of Ireland’s Individual Annual Submission Review (FCCC/ARR/2012/IRL), the Expert Review Team (ERT) concludes that Ireland’s inventory submission was prepared in accordance with the UNFCCC reporting guidelines. The ERT also indicates that the National Inventory Report (NIR) and the set of Common Reporting Format (CRF) tables for the years 1990-2010 are complete in terms of geographical coverage, years and sectors, as well as generally complete in terms of categories and gases. The ERT commends Ireland for having improved the uncertainty analysis for land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) activities. The ERT also provides general and sector-specific recommendations for improvement, including for the energy, agriculture and industrial processes sector.

In the report of Denmark’s Individual Annual Submission Review (FCCC/ARR/2012/DNK), the ERT concludes that Denmark’s submission was prepared in accordance with the UNFCCC reporting guidelines, and that the NIR and the set of CRF tables for 1990-2010 are complete in terms of geographical coverage, years, gases, sectors and categories. The ERT provides, among others, general recommendations concerning completeness, as well as recommendations for the energy and industrial processes sector.

In the report of the Netherland’s Individual Annual Submission Review (FCCC/ARR/2012/NLD), the ERT concludes that the Netherland’s submission was prepared in accordance with the UNFCCC reporting guidelines and that the NIR and set of CRF tables for 1990-2010 are complete in terms of geographical coverage, years and sectors, but generally complete in terms of categories. The ERT notes that potential emissions of certain gases are missing despite existing methodologies of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for their calculation. The ERT provides crosscutting recommendations including that the Netherlands should: incorporate in the NIR the descriptions of the methods and parameters used; further enhance the functionality of the national system; and report emissions from all categories for which IPCC methodologies are available.
