UNFCCC Publishes Information on Support for Observation and Monitoring Networks
story highlights

The SBI is invited at its 35th session in Durban to consider the information contained in the document to guide its deliberations on the funding needs for global climate observations and to explore how further support could be provided to strengthen observation networks and capabilities in developing countries.

UNFCCC17 November 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published information (FCCC/SBI/2011/INF.10) on support provided to developing country parties for activities undertaken to strengthen existing and, where needed, establish national and regional systematic observation and monitoring networks, based on information contained in the relevant submissions from parties and information contained in the fifth national communications of Annex I Parties to the Convention.

This follows an invitation made by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) at its 33rd session to discuss the funding needs for global climate observations and capabilities in developing countries, especially the least developed countries (LDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS). This item was considered by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) at its 34th session and parties were invited to submit information on support for compilation into a miscellaneous document for consideration by SBI at its 35th session, to take place from 28 November – 3 December 2011, in Durban, South Africa. The SBI is invited to consider the information contained in the document to guide its deliberations on the funding needs for global climate observations and to explore how further support could be provided to strengthen observation networks and capabilities in developing countries.
