20 May 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published several documents in the run up to the 34th session of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) on fifth national communications and the proposed programme budget for the biennium 2012-2013.

The compilation and synthesis of fifth national communications (FCCC/SBI/2011/INF.1) and addendum (FCCC/SBI/2011/INF.1/Add.2) have been published. The compilation provides information on a range of issues relating to the implementation of the Convention by Annex I Parties, such as: national circumstances; greenhouse gas (GHG) emission trends; emission projections and estimates of the total effect of policies and measures; policies and measures; vulnerability assessment, climate change impacts and adaptation measures; financial resources and transfer of technology; capacity building; research and systematic observation; and education, training and public awareness.

The addendum contains the second part of the compilation and synthesis report of the fifth national communications submitted to the Secretariat by Annex I Parties. It provides information on a range of issues relating to the implementation of the Convention, such as vulnerability assessment, climate change impacts and adaptation measures; financial resources and transfer of technology; capacity building research and systematic observation; and education, training and public awareness.

An addendum to the proposed programme budget for the biennium 2012-2013 has also been released. The document summarizes the work programme for the Secretariat for the biennium 2012-2013 and outlines the amount of the core budget resources, and the amount of core budget and supplementary resources required to implement its mandate and achieve its expected results. It should be considered in conjunction with document FCCC/SBI/2011/2, which contains the proposed programme budget for the biennium 2012-2013, Add.2, which lists the activities to be funded from supplementary sources, and Add.3, which provides the budget for the international transaction log.

SBI 34 will take place from 6-16 June 2011, in Bonn Germany.
