UNFCCC Publishes Agendas for Durban

The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the provisional annotated agendas for COP 17, COP/MOP 7, SBI 35 and SBSTA 35, which will take place in Durban, South Africa,from 28 November to 9 December 2011.

The Secretariat has also published a proposal from India for inclusion of additional agenda items in the provisional agenda of COP 17 under development and transfer of technologies.

UNFCCC19 September 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the provisional annotated agendas for 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17), the seventh session of the Conference of the Parties serving the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 7), and the 35th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technical Advice (SBSTA).

COP 17 will take place in Durban, South Africa, from 28 November to 9 December 2011. Among other issues, the agenda for COP 17 (FCCC/CP/2011/1) includes: consideration of proposals by parties under Article 17 (Protocols) of the Convention; report of the Transitional Committee for the Green Climate Fund; modalities and procedures for the Technology Executive Committee; review of implementation of commitments and of other provisions of the Convention; and accelerated access to critical mitigation and adaptation technologies and related intellectual property rights.

The UNFCCC Secretariat has also published a proposal (FCCC/CP/ 2011/ INF.2 ) from India for inclusion of additional agenda items in the provisional agenda of COP 17 under development and transfer of technologies.

The agenda for the COP/MOP (FCCC/KP/CMP/2011/1) indicates that it will consider items including: consideration of proposals by parties for amendments to the Kyoto Protocol; matters relating to compliance under the Kyoto Protocol; the Adaptation Fund; issues relating to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM); and issues relating to Joint Implementation (JI).

The provisional agenda (FCCC/SBI/2011/8) for SBI 35 outlines items proposed for consideration, including: national communications and greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory data from Annex I parties; non Annex I national communications; national adaptation plans; and forum on the impact of the implementation of response measures at the 34th and 35th sessions of the subsidiary bodies.

Under the SBSTA, the provisional agenda (FCCC/SBSTA/2011/3) indicates that items proposed for consideration include: the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change; methodological guidance for activities relating to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+); and methodological issues under the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol.
