UNFCCC25 November 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released an addendum to the report of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC, containing information on consultations between the GEF and the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN). The report discusses a workshop that was co-organized by the GEF Secretariat and the CTCN, during which participants considered, inter alia, joint efforts and cooperation to accelerate climate-related technology transfer.

The GEF and CTCN further discussed joint efforts and collaboration during the fourth CTCN Advisory Board meeting. As noted in the report addendum, the GEF identified areas of collaboration, including: a proposed project, titled ‘Promoting Accelerated Transfer and Scaled-up Deployment of Mitigation Technologies through the CTCN,’ which is expected to serve as a pilot for future CTCN-related output developed as GEF-6 projects; and CTCN operationalization and activity support through technical assistance, policy support, capacity building and investment. The GEF and CTCN also discussed collaboration on developing, demonstrating and financing low-carbon technologies and mitigation options.

The paper includes a section on the Poznan Strategic Program on Technology Transfer, which summarizes the status of implementation of four GEF-supported regional technology transfer and financing centers, supported under the first element of the Poznan Strategic Program. The projects include: the Pilot Asia-Pacific Climate Technology Network and Finance Center; the Climate Technology Transfer Mechanisms and Networks in Latin America and the Caribbean; the Pilot African Climate Technology Finance Center and Network; and the Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change – FINTECC.

The addendum includes an Annex, titled ‘Technology Transfer Projects Support in line with the first objective of the Long-Term Program on Technology Transfer: Support for Climate Technology Centers and a Climate Technology Network,’ which elaborates on the projects.
