UNFCCC LEG Reviews Implementation of 2013-2014 Work Programme

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat has published a summary report of the 25th meeting of the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), which, among other things, reviewed progress on implementation of the LEG work programme for 2013-2014.

UNFCCC8 April 2014: The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat has published a summary report of the 25th meeting of the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), which, among other things, reviewed progress on implementation of the LEG work programme for 2013-2014.

The meeting, which convened in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on 27-28 February 2014, focused on, inter alia: an update on national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs); technical guidance and support to the least developed countries (LDCs) on national adaptation plans (NAPs); development of information resources for strengthening gender considerations in adaptation planning and implementation; a tool for monitoring and evaluating progress, effectiveness of and gaps in NAPs; and coherence and synergy of adaptation-related efforts under the UNFCCC.

The summary report also includes sections on, inter alia: the two-year LEG work programme for 2014-2015; training on NAPs; planning for the 2014 NAP Expo; supplementary materials with technical guidelines for the NAP process; support of knowledge management and outreach in adaptation through NAP Central, and capturing and sharing best practices and lessons learned; mobilization of organizations, regional centers and networks; collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its agencies and other organizations, in providing technical guidance and support to the LDCs; and in-depth LDC case studies, including in Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Gambia, Kiribati, Sudan and Zambia.

The LEG is mandated to provide technical support and advice to the LDCs on NAPAs and the LDC work programme, and to provide technical guidance and support to the NAP process. [Publication: Report of the 25th Meeting of the LEG]
