Commenting on the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention’s (AWG-LCA) 200-page negotiating text, de Boer said that it had to be pared down to ensue that the main elements of the agreement are included. He voiced optimism that an agreement will be reached in Copenhagen, noting that “the international community has been shocked by the messages coming from the scientific community,” with there being a “strong willingness to act on this issue.” [UN press release]
