UNFCCC12 April 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has launched a call for inspiring, innovative, successful and motivational examples of financial innovations in the context of activities that mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions or help the poor and vulnerable adapt to the effects of climate change.

The initiatives, which can be submitted from 12 April to 31 May 2013, must relate to activities currently implemented or those that have already been completed and are scalable and replicable.

Initiatives submitted will be added to a register of inspiring activities on the Momentum for Change website and the selected ones will be presented during the UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Warsaw, Poland, from 11-22 November 2013. The call is part of the initiative named “Momentum for Change: Innovative Financing for Climate-friendly Investment,” which intends to inform governments, investors, business, public finance agencies and the media about opportunities to leverage innovative finance for sustainable growth.

The Innovative Financing for Climate-friendly Investment initiative is part of the UNFCCC’s broader “Momentum for Change” Initiative, which pursues the objectives of raising awareness on adaptation and mitigation actions by a range of actors at all levels. The initiative is carried out in partnership with the World Economic Forum’s Green Growth Action Alliance, which gathers over 60 of the world’s energy companies, international financial institutions and development finance banks.
