UNFCCC AWG-LCA Chair Releases Scenario Note for Doha Session

UNFCCC16 November 2012: The Chair of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action (AWG-LCA), under the UNFCCC, released a scenario note for the second part of the 15th session to be held in Doha, Qatar, from 27 November-7 December 2012 (FCCC/AWGLCA/2012/4).

The note reflects the status of deliberations and outlines how the session aims to organize and advance the AWG-LCA’s work. The note includes sections on: status of the negotiations; working towards the agreed outcome; and organization of the work. The AWG-LCA Chair suggests organizing a short opening plenary, regular stocktaking meetings and open-ended informal consultations to work towards an agreed outcome.

In the section on working towards the AWG-LCA agreed outcome, the Chair states that he prepared an overview text that builds upon the overview note presented at the end of the last informal additional session held in Bangkok, Thailand on 5 September (FCCC/AWGLCA/2012/CRP.3). This note reflects Parties views and interventions on AWG-LCA agenda items and aims to identify a potential forward path. The note also highlights that the text does not have uniform approach for all areas, given the different levels of maturity in the discussions and agreements under the numerous elements of the AWG-LCA work.
