UNESCO’s High Panel on Science for Development Holds First Meeting

The High Panel on Science for Development will meet twice a year to guide UNESCO's strategies for promoting sustainable development and advancing poverty eradication.

It also will examine potential new partnerships with the private sector, civil society and academia.

15 September 2011: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) convened the first meeting of its High Panel on Science for Development. The Panel is made up of 28 eminent experts and will meet twice a year to guide UNESCO’s strategies for promoting sustainable development and advancing poverty eradication.

The Panel also will examine potential new partnerships with the private sector, civil society and academia.

Meeting from 15-16 September 2011, in Paris, France, the Panel’s first meeting focused on trends in the sciences, UNESCO’s present role, and how it can promote the use of science for sustainable development.
