The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Germany agreed to the establishment of a UNESCO category 2 centre for water resources and global change.
The Centre, based in Koblenz, Germany, will undertake research and build capacity to understand the impacts of global change on water resources in order to facilitate sustainable and adaptive management.
9 July 2014: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Germany agreed to the establishment of a UNESCO category 2 centre for water resources and global change. The Centre, based in Koblenz, Germany, will undertake research and build capacity to understand the impacts of global change on water resources in order to facilitate sustainable and adaptive management.
The Center joins more than 30 category 2 water-related centres around the world that contribute to the implementation of UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme (IHP). The International Centre for Water Resources and Global Change aims promote sustainable development and integrated water resources management (IWRM) by: supporting hydrological research, education, training and raising awareness at all levels; developing tools for operational purposes; and building networks of international experts networking to transfer information and knowledge.
