UNESCO-Backed Workshop Focuses on Climate Change Impacts in Asian Mountains

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) organized the Regional Workshop on Climate Change Impacts in Asian Mountains, which addressed strategies for collaboration across disciplines and borders of mountains and climate change experts.

20 March 2013: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) organized the Regional Workshop on Climate Change Impacts in Asian Mountains, which addressed strategies for collaboration across disciplines and borders of mountains and climate change experts.

Participants discussed strategies for coordinating research on climate and hydrological processes, improving well-being in marginalized communities, developing a standard framework for assessing vulnerability, enhancing the knowledge of educators on climate change, and promoting cooperation among regional organizations.

The workshop, which was held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 13-15 March 2013, included senior representatives from ten countries. It was one of three regional workshops on climate change impacts being held by UNESCO to shape global strategies for strengthening policies on mountain ecosystems.
