1 June 2010: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP), together with the British High Commission and the Government of Malaysia, convened the Malaysian Green Growth Policy Tools Workshop for Low Carbon Development, from 18-19 May 2010, in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

The workshop was part of the Green Growth Capacity Development Programme and brought together over 50 representatives from government, the private sector and civil society. Three conclusions emerged from the workshop, including that: climate change, environmental degradation and increasing resource scarcity pose serious threats to Malaysia’s future development; there is a need for greater inter-ministerial collaboration and more complimentary policies that foster pro-poor low-carbon development and Green Growth; and more in-depth and targeted capacity development for policy makers at the national, ministry and local levels is key to address such challenges.
Participants indicated they would apply what they had learned in the Programme by: incorporating Green Growth concepts into their daily work; reducing their individual carbon footprints in daily life; reducing energy consumption in the office; and integrating Green Growth and climate change concepts into policy formulation.
