January 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP)/GRID-Arendal Marine Programme has released the January 2011 edition of its newsletter (Marine Newsletter #14), including an update on green economy activities and a collaboration with the UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP).

According to the newsletter, the UNEP/GRID-Arendal Marine Programme is seeking ideas on ways for emerging economies (from national to community scales) to exchange knowledge, information and lessons learned to plan and deploy renewable energy systems, with the aim of seeding the foundations for a green economy.

The newsletter also notes UNEP/GRID-Arendal’s collaboration with UNEP/MAP on the implementation of the ecosystem approach under the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean. The collaboration includes: production of a “State of Environment Report” focusing on ecosystems; development of ecological objectives and indicators; and the revision of the road map for the ecosystems approach.
