The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has spotlighted the successful replication of a mercury-free, small-scale processing facility in Mandal, Mongolia.
The privately owned facility is a replication of a Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) and Mongolian Government pilot project.
3 June 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has spotlighted the successful replication of a mercury-free, small-scale processing facility in Mandal, Mongolia. The privately owned facility is a replication of a Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) and Mongolian Government pilot project.
The facility provides an alternative for approximately 100,000 Mongolian small-scale gold miners who previously used mercury from a mercury-gold amalgam to process gold. Miners can pay US$10 per ton to have their ore processed at the mercury-free facility.
