8dec08risoe_logo_ 4 December 2008: At a side event to the 14th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, taking place in Poznan, Poland, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risø Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development (URC) held a side event on “Perspectives on Future Directions and Capacity Development Needs.” The event was the occasion for the launch of a URC publication, “A Reformed CDM –including new Mechanisms for Sustainable Development,” which explores how to reform the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in a post-2012 climate regime.

The publication addresses:
sustainable development and equity; institutional reform; expansion of project
categories; and scaling up mitigation. The first part of the event dealt with market
trends and capacity development needs, while the second focused on reforming
