12 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Project has released a TNA, titled “Technology Needs Assessment and Technology Action Plans for Climate Change Adaptation: Georgia.” Prepared by UNEP and the Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia, the TNA outlines technology needs in priority sectors in Georgia.

The 128-page TNA defines three priority sectors: the Black Sea coastal zone represented by a new segment (Anaklia) not considered in previous studies; extreme geological events (landslides, mudflows, floods); and agriculture (land degradation, water erosion and irrigation). For each priority sector, the TNA includes recommended technologies, solutions and project ideas.

The TNA Project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by UNEP’s Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (DTIE) and the UNEP Risoe Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development. The TNA aims to assist countries in determining their technology priorities regarding mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adaptation to climate change.
