The 2011 Ozone Africa Media Award aims to encourage the highest standards of excellence in environmental and scientific reporting, focusing on how ozone issues are addressed in Africa.
The award will identify the best examples of journalistic practice in the coverage of ozone issues in Africa in print, audio-visual and electronic media.
27 June 2011: The UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Regional Office in Africa has announced the launch of the 2011 Ozone Africa Media Award. The award, which was established in 2010, aims to encourage the highest standards of excellence in environmental and scientific reporting, focusing on how ozone issues are addressed in Africa.
The award was announced during the UNEP Ozone Compliance Assistance Programme workshop, which is convening from 27-30 June 2011, in Bamako, Mali. The workshop aims to assess the compliance status of African countries with Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) Phase-out and preparation of Hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) Phase-out Management Plans. CFCs and HCFCs contribute to depletion of the ozone layer and climate change.
The award aims to identify the best examples of journalistic practice in the coverage of ozone issues in Africa in print, audio-visual and electronic media. Entries should be submitted by 10 September 2011, and the winners will be announced on the International Day for Ozone preservation on 16 September 2011. [UNEP Press Release]
