scp21 May 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in its role as Secretariat of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP 10YFP), has launched The Global SCP Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse uses social networking principles to create a “one-stop hub” for SCP knowledge and cooperation.

According to UNEP, the Clearinghouse aims to provide a forum for browsing a diverse range of regional and thematic communities, from sustainable public procurement and cities and buildings, to sustainable production, lifestyles and education. UNEP says the Clearinghouse should inspire stakeholders to “share initiatives, news, ideas, best practices and tools.”

The development of the Global SCP Clearinghouse is an outcome of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20), which agreed to implement the 10YFP, a framework for action to develop, enhance, replicate and scale-up SCP and resource-efficiency initiatives at both national and regional levels.

The development of the Clearinghouse was funded by the European Commission, the Government of Norway, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and the Swedish Ministry of the Environment.
