story highlights

UNEP and UNEP Risoe facilitated a capacity building workshop for the African region to assist in developing Technology Action Plans (TAPs) in support of the Technology Needs Assessment Project, which is funded by the GEF.

The workshop was guided by the report titled "Overcoming Barriers to the Transfer and Diffusion of Climate Technologies."

UNEP17 February 2012: In support of the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Project, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UNEP Risoe Centre facilitated a capacity building workshop for the African region to assist in developing Technology Action Plans (TAPs). At the workshop, the report titled “Overcoming Barriers to the Transfer and Diffusion of Climate Technologies” was introduced.

The workshop, held in Fringilla, Zambia, from 14-17 February 2012, aimed to train participants in: identifying barriers to technology transfer and diffusion, as well as enabling environments to overcome these barriers; and assisting in the creation of TAPs to address these issues. The report, which was used as the basis for the workshop, offers guidance for overcoming barriers for transfer of technologies for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded TNA project seeks to assist countries in developing TAPs that: prioritize technologies; define enabling frameworks and environments for technology diffusion; and establish methods to identify good technology transfer projects. The latter include projects that address practical steps for overcoming barriers to technology transfer.
