14 June 2017: The partnership between UN Environment (UNEP) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has released the Energy Efficiency Brief for the city of Tbilisi, Georgia. The Brief summarizes opportunities and issues uncovered during a dialogue between UNEP-DTU and the city administration aiming to explore opportunities for energy efficiency implementation.

The publication lays out the country’s current situation and commitments regarding energy efficiency, considering Georgia’s situation as a country with an economy in transition with rapidly growing city population and economic activity and resulting challenges. It provides an overview of the status, existing initiatives and priority opportunities in the building, industry and transport sectors. It identifies high impact opportunities to improve energy efficiency in Tbilisi across these sectors.

The brief finds that implementing these opportunities could allow the city to raise its level of ambition regarding climate mitigation from the current target of 20% reduction by 2030 to 30 or 40%. [UNEP-DTU Press Release] [Energy Efficiency Brief: Tbilisi, Georgia]
