Addressing the workshop, Angela Cropper, UNEP’s Deputy Executive Director, noted that the recent drought in Kenya had affected the main sectors of the national economy and called attention to the potential of climate change to affect “several critical sectors of the global economy as well as entire national economies with debilitating consequences for human wellbeing.” With less than a month to go before the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, UNEP noted the timeliness of the workshop and indicated its solidarity with the African countries.
