28 June 2010: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has reported that its Billion Tree Campaign has successfully met and surpassed all targets that have been set for it.

The Campaign has gathered momentum and continues to grow with tree planting occurring in 178 countries. According to UNEP, private individuals represent the highest number of tree planting entries (49%), followed by civil society groups and NGOs at 12%.
