UNEP Assists with Tree Planting at Kenya’s Mau Complex

18jan_10_0215 January 2010: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in partnership with the Government of Kenya, participated in the launch of tree planting drive in the Kiptunga area of the Mau Forest Complex, as part of an attempt to restore diminishing water towers. UNEP assisted in the planting of 20,000 tree seedlings over 20 hectares. According to UNEP, it has assisted in chronicling and raising awareness about the damage and the degradation of East Africa’s largest closed-canopy forest. UNEP has also appointed an expert to provide technical advice to a government-led Mau task force. [UNEP Press Release]
